چکیده
In 1999 the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) released a document entitled “Harmonization of Professional Standards” [1] which had been developed by a small working group within the Technical Committee for Education (IFIP TC3). The purpose of the document was to set out what could become an international standard for professional practice in Information Technology. The IFIP Harmonization document highlights six areas for consideration with regard to professional standards. These are: • Ethics of professional practice, • Established body of knowledge, • Education and training, • Professional experience, • Best practice and proven methodologies, and • Maintenance of competence.

Best Practices in Software Engineering: Does Anybody in Industry or Academia Care?
In 1991, Motorola became one of the first companies to establish a software center in Bangalore, India.. The plan, at the time, was to investigate whether or not it was possible to build an organization from the ground up to develop software using the processes and best practices being promoted by the Software Engineering Institute.. Within 2 years, that goal was realized when the Motorola Indi...

Context: Over the last two decades, software architecture has introduced a new trend in software development. This new trend has completely changed the normal methods and practices of software engineering. The focus has become the architectural elements rather than code and sub-routines. Architecture description languages (ADLs) have been proposed for this kind of architecture based software de...
متن کاملEstablishing Long-lasting Relationships between Industry and Academia
So how can industry and academia work better together to produce graduates who not only understand the theory and practice of software engineering and process improvement, but understand the challenges, and have ideas for solutions? This paper will address these issues and serve as a basis to generate additional ideas.
متن کاملA Graduate's Role in Technology Transfer: From Requirements to Design with UML
It is a universal challenge to bridge the gap between academia and industry, and between theory and practice. This challenge is particularly critical in the discipline of software engineering and is often categorised under the umbrella of technology transfer. Experience suggests that one of the least well understood aspects of software development is in the move from requirements to design. We ...
متن کاملLessons from Industrial Adoption of Software Engineering Practices
Industrial adoption of software engineering practices can take years and academia needs to help speed up this process. The challenge that industry faces in widely adopting just one of these practices software inspections is traced through over 15 years of company-wide experience at Hewlett-Packard. Four historical stages give insight into many lessons learned within HP and elsewhere. Each perio...
